My boyfriend recently travelled from Cairns, Queensland, Australia to London Heathrow. This involved a domestic flight with one airline from Cairns to Sydney and then an International flight on another airline to London Heathrow, so the baggage allowances were different. He was 10kgs over his allowance and had to pay over $500 to get his bag home, which ended up coming Cargo from Sydney to avoid even more charges. The bag took 5 days to arrive. Once it had arrived in the UK there were further charges....£30 to collect the bag from Birmingham Airport and £48 to get it cleared through customs, and alot of phone calls and faxes, not to mention STRESS!! So make sure you check the weight allowed, and try to weigh it at home before you leave for the airport. Lots of people weight their suitcases on the bathroom scales, which isn't very accurate. So if you think you may be close to reaching your limit, try to take a few items out and reduce it. Shoes weigh alot so they are always good to reduce the weight. The airport should be the start of your holiday, so don't start it off with stress and charges......travel light. ( I think this blog is mainly aimed at women!!!)
Alternatively, take a cruise from a UK Port, where there are no baggage restrictions. So fill your boots....i mean BAGS!!
